In LCA it is important to know to what extent the analysis is
affected by various types of uncertainty, such as parameter, scenario,
and model uncertainty (Heijungs and Huijbregts, 2004). In
this research, three main uncertainty aspects were addressed: (i)
inventory data quality and modelling, (ii) statistical uncertainty of
the inventory, and (iii) key parameters that could potentially affect
the results. They were respectively managed by performing (i) data
quality, mass balances and consistency checks, (ii) a Monte Carlo
simulation and (iii) a sensitivity analysis for the key parameters at
several life cycle stages.
