Bowling Alley Width
Bowling alleys typically are installed in pairs. For a two-lane bowling alley, the total width of all the required bowling alley equipment is about 11′-6″. This width includes two gutters, two runs of capping along the tops of the gutters, and the lane itself. If space allows, we recommend adding a aisles along both sides of the lanes. Adding width to the room will help balance out the extreme length of the space. See table below for required widths for configurations other than two lanes.
Minimum Bowling Lane Widths (Does not include any interruptions such as columns or walkways)
Configuration Equipment Width
1 Lane 7’-2”
2 Lanes 11’-6”
3 Lanes 17’-5”
4 Lanes 22’-8”
Add 11’1-1/4” for each additional lane pair
Bowling Alley Ceiling Height
A ceiling height of 10 feet is recommended throughout the bowling area. This will allow enough room to install overhead flat screen scoring display TVs. It is important to have adequate space overhead to allow for a comfortable playing area. An 8′ ceiling is also okay, but the scoring TVs will likely need to be mounted on a wall, instead of hung from the ceiling.
