Benefits of Using Computers in Postal Mail Sorting
Less manpower is used because of the use of computerized machines. This shortens the time taken to process mail and so the envelopes reach their destinations earlier. Sorting envelopes manually requires a lot of manpower and is time consuming. Also, more mistakes may occur.
1.4 Computers at the Airport
Airports are important hubs for travel. Improvements in aircraft technology mean that more people are travelling by plane.
As the volume of air traffic increased, computers were slowly roped in to perfrom some of the repetitive tasks and, subsequently, some of the more sophisticated tasks.
Designing Airports
Computers can be used for designing airports. For example, using computers, different designs can be simulated on a computer to test thier effectiveness. Simulations may be used to test the amount of air traffic that the airport can handle based on airpace capacities, comparisons of alternative sites, airfield layouts, and passenger-and-baggage flow patterns. Simulations can also check how airports react to stress, for example, in cases where the runways are full and there are still airplanes trying to land.
