This study has demonstrated that LSY has sufficient genetic
variance and may be improved through traditional selection
methods.
Selection on LSY could indirectly improve W2E and
should not have an antagonistic relationship with NBA;
however, selection on LSY may result in undesirable changes
in post-weaning growth traits.
It is important to account for
these correlations specific to the population before considering
the incorporation of LSY into a selection program.
A selection
index must be utilized to ensure that the economically important
traits are optimized.
