These capabilities and processes are largely ad hoc at the moment, but are likely to become more systematic and well defined in
the future. Companies and nonprofit organizations will develop staged processes for data discovery, just as innovation-focused firms have well-defined product development processes involv ing dearly-defined "stage gates." Discovery platforms will allow much more efficient and productive exploration of the relation ships and insights hiding in big data. Data products and decision approaches that appear promising in discovery will be shifted to other platforms for detailed implementation and production.
