The possible reason could be associated with high adsorption ability of activated charcoal and absorption
by sawdust. Findings reveal that DSI3 (bacterial isolate) would be the best option among three
selected isolates for the treatment of dairy effluent. However, the mixed culture would prove to be
more effective and beneficial than a single culture. We suggest that the addition of any one of these
microbial cultures to the activated sludge process will in crease over all efficiency of the treatment
system. It can also reduce bulking problems of the activated sludge by preventing load of organic
matter from becoming too high.
