In English, we often communicate without saying a word. Our facial expressions, body posture, gestures, or tone of voice can express our feelings and thoughts to others. Using words, however, increases our ability to explain our ideas more fully and better enables us to achieve our purposes.
As we use the words of a language, grammar and structure become important. For example, which of these choices below would more people choose as the most acceptable?
1. I smart.
2. I am very smart.
3. Smart me am.
Although all three choices express a similar meaning, I am very smart is the choice that follows standard English rules of grammar and structure.
