The MIC demonstrated that the growth of 13 species of bacteria
were largely inhibited by stingless bee honey (Table 2). The MIC of
stingless bee honey ranged from 6.00 ± 2.19 to 26.18 ± 8.07% (w/v),
whereas that of honey from both provinces was not different.
However, the antibacterial activity of stingless bee honey was higher
for Gram-positive bacteria than for Gram-negative bacteria. Stingless
bee honey from Trat province had the lowest MIC against M. luteus
(6.00 ± 2.19% (w/v)).
The antioxidant activity was tested using DPPH methanolic
solution, which exhibited a purple color. The honey samples from
Chantaburi and Trat province had IC50 valued 0.07 ± 0.01 mg/ml and
0.04 ± 0.00 mg/ml, respectively. One of the six honey samples from
Trat province gave the lowest IC50 (0.01 ± 0.00 mg/ml) indicating the
highest level of antioxidant.
