1 SHIP REFLOATED
When a message is received from a ship that it has touched ground / been
aground, the following will be initiated :
1.1 If the ship has no significant damages
1 Inform owners to notify underwriters and give all known information.
2 Contact the ship and clarify;
- type and extent of possible damages to ship and any imminent pollution.
- if the voyage can be completed or survey should be requested in the first
ordinary port of arrival/the ship sails for port of refuge for survey.
- If there is a need for repairs or other assistance in the port of
destination/port of call/port of refuge.
3 Keep the ship informed about actions taken and give instructions about
further measures to be taken to contain the damage and pollution.
1.2 If the ship has sustained damages which affect her seaworthiness :
1 Immediately inform Owners to notify underwriters and give all known
information.
2 Contact the ship and clarify
- type and extent of damages to ship and any imminent pollution.
- If the ship may proceed to nearest harbour on its own
- if any repairs must be made in order to be able to proceed
- what precautions the ship has taken.
3 Investigate possibilities for repair and other forms of necessary assistance
which may be obtained in the area.
4 Contact underwriters through owners and compare information received,
and decide on further actions in consultation with the underwriters.
5 Keep the ship informed about actions taken and give instructions about
further measures to be taken to contain the damage and pollution.
1.3 IF THE SHIP MUST HAVE ASSISTANCE IN ORDER TO PROCEED :
1 Immediately inform owners to notify underwriter and give all known
information.
2 Contact the ship and clarify :
- type and extent of damages to ship and imminent pollution.
- if the ship has arranged for necessary assistance, and in case from whom?
- if offers received for assistance are adequate
- the master's evaluation of the situation and assumed need for assistance
- what measures the ship has taken in order to secure the situation and
notify parties involved, and further preparations made.
3 Clarify if required assistance may be arranged, and if sufficient repair
facilities are available in the area.
4 Contact underwriters through owners and compare information received
and decide on further actions in consultation with the underwriters.
5 Keep the ship informed about actions taken and give instructions about
further measures to be taken to contain the damage and pollution.
2 SHIP AGROUND :
When a message is received from a ship that it is aground, the following actions
would be taken :
2.1 If the ship has an acute need of assistance to get off the ground or prevent further
damages from occurring
1 Immediately inform owners to notify underwriters and give all known
information.
2 Contact the ship, or if this is not possible, the agent, local authorities and
clarify.
- if assistance has been engaged / offered
- extent of damage and hazards involved
- if the ship is totally or partly abandoned, and if anyone is injured,.
Missing or deceased
- what form of assistance is required
- what precautions have been taken by the ship
- if the company may forward advice and directions to the ship
3 Contact underwriters through owners and compare information received,
and decide on further actions in consultation with the underwriters.
4 Keep the ship/agent informed about actions taken, and give instructions
about further measures to be taken.
5 Keep the ship informed about actions taken and give instructions about
further measures to be taken to contain the damage and pollution.
2.2 IF THERE IS NOT ACUTE NEED FOR ACTION :
1 Immediately inform owners to advise the ship's underwriters and give all
known information.
2 Clarify
- extent of damage to ship and surroundings
- possibilities of getting off by own means
- what form of assistance may be needed
- if assistance has been offered/at location
- if damage control actions have been initiated, and in case what actions
and by whom
- the master's evaluation of the situation and the actions that should be
taken
3 Contact underwriters and compare information received, and decide on
further actions in consultation with the underwriter.
4 Keep the ship informed about actions taken and give instructions about
further measures to be taken to contain the damage and pollution.
3 OTHER PRECAUTIONS :
3.1 NOTIFICATION :
If it is expected that the incident will be mentioned in the press, the complement's
and passengers’ next-of-kin must be notified immediately.
3.2 POLLUTION :
In cases of oil spill or danger of oil spill ensure that local authorities and the ship's
P & I underwriters are notified immedi
