obliquus strain M2-1 exhibit a particularly
high antioxidant capacity according to the (radical cation)
ABTS method using ascorbic acid as standard, complemented with
a deoxyribose assay and a bacteriophage P22/Salmonella-mediated
assay; the scavenger activity correlated with its protective effects
against DNA oxidative damage and decay in P22 phage infection
capacity induced by H2O2. On the other hand, previous performance
of Ames’ test revealed no mutagenic effects of any extract
of said strain.
