Use a small flat blade screwdriver and gently turn the screw clockwise, counting the turns, until it seats.
Then turn it counterclockwise 2 1/2 turns. This is a good starting point that can be refined when the engine is running.
My pilot screw was 1 3/4 turns out from the factory. It is now 2 1/4 turns. Yours may need to be different. It will vary according to temperature, humidity, and altitude.
I did not remove the pilot screw, though you can, more small parts, easy to lose. If you lose one part, you have to buy the whole set. They are not sold individually.
Edit: It would be a good idea to remove the pilot screw assembly, and squirt carb cleaner into the hole.
The passageways have very small openings and are easily clogged.
