Sleep complaints are common in pregnant women. Physiological and physical changes over the course of pregnancy impact sleep and wakefulness. In some cases, sleep disturbances presenting during pregnancy meet diagnostic criteria for sleep disorders. At least one-third of pregnant women report some type of sleep disturbance.1 Yet most women report not receiving information about sleep in pregnancy.2 Sleep disorders may adversely impact maternal-fetal health. This presentation reviews the common sleep disorders encountered by pregnant women and treatment strategies for this unique population.
