MK Restaurant Group is one of the largest restauranteur in Thailand. They had bought into a 1980s’ office / warehouse on the outskirt of Bangkok. Our immediate approach was to arrange the site plan by open up the front to the public, and turn the area between the office and warehouse into the courtyard. The original office block also posed a number of problems i.e. low ceiling, tight lift shafts, inadequate main stair slope and so on. Thus, in addition to the task of re-facade the building, we had opened up a series of atria in the building to cancel the low ceiling and to connect the office floors. These atria featured an open stair that, not only connect the office floors, but also act as a collaboration space within the office. The volumetric treatment on the facade also reflects the atrium volumes inside. The glass facade had also featured internal pivot sun-screen as a second facade layer. At the service core, we had made a number of adjustments for better lay-out of all the function area. Two glass lifts were added and became a prominent element on the facade.
