A zoo 'set' in its surroundings
The Zoological Park is part of the Bois de Vincennes,
one of the biggest green spaces in Paris. Concealed
within its lush green borders, the park is in harmony*
with its immediate surroundings. The park's leafy
heritage has been preserved, except for some trees
which were diseased or had been damaged by the
storm of 1999. Of the 1,536 existing trees, 797 were kept.
These are ancient groups of trees (clusters of plane
trees and pines), or isolated specimens scattered
around the landscape and animal pens.
*Landscaping plans comply with the Bois de Vincennes (listed
site) Sustainable Development Charter. (See annexes, p. 38).
