Clinical leadership
Our third practice domain in the core role of the NP is defined
as clinical leadership. Our findings indicate that the NP
role is derived from a strong base of clinical experience and
education, which develops both extensive and extended
clinical skills and a critical awareness of the place of nursing
in health service delivery. Consequently the NP role is a
leadership role in clinical practice. In addition NP participants
noted their need to draw from that knowledge base and
to conform to consistent evidence review, to inform and
guide local and national health policy and to participate as a
senior member of the discipline especially in relation to their
sphere or scope of practice.
