Surrounded by rice fields and beautiful landscape, Wat Phra Tat Lampang Luang is actually several kilometers outside the city of Lampang. The temple itself is elevated and high wall is built around it. The large wooden viharn was built in 1476 and stands next to a magnificent chedi. The temple is home to many important Buddha images, like the emerald Buddha image of Phra Kaew Don Tao (initially enshrined in the temple with the same name), Phra Chao Lan Thong, which is said to be the most beautiful Buddha images of Lampang, and Phra Chao Phra Buddha, a Chiang Saen-style image. In 2007 we attended the ritual sprinkling of water onto Phra Kaew Don Tao during the New Year festivities, which in itself was worth the second trip we undertook to this temple
