1. couldn’t wait until Saturday morning because that’s when he was going fishing with his dad and Uncle Greg. He had been fishing at Hawkins River with them before, but this time was going to be different. He had a surprise for his dad and uncle. He had discovered a way to catch more trout than both of them combined!
2. Zachary had spent hours reading his dad’s fishing magazines. After a careful and painstaking study of the subject, Zachary had made his selection and placed an order. He spent his hard-earned money from mowing lawns on a jar of something called Trout Attract.
3. Now catching trout would be almost effortless,he thought. At least that’s what the magazine ads claimed about the product. All he had to do was dip his bait into the jar of Trout Attract, and he would start catching fish right away. According to the ad, he could use any kind of bait with the product. He could even skip the bait and just douse the hook in the solution. The magazine ads claimed that the substance was foolproof. Trout Attract was what he needed after the results of his last fishing trip. He didn’t caught one fish. He remembered the jokes that his father and uncle and made. Zachary knew they were kidding, but he couldn’t help thinking about their remarks.
4. “Did you forget to put a hook on that line,Zachary?” Uncle Greg had teased with a big grin.
5. "Now don't razz my boy,Greg,"his father had said. "He really doesn't like to fish. He just comes out here with us to hear your tall stories about playing football in college."
6. Uncle Greg had pretended to be insulted. "Tall stories? Every word of those stories is the absolute truth! Zachary, your dad was right there in the stands cheering me on. In fact, the entire student body of the whole university was cheering for me!"
7.His dad had just rolled his eyes.
8. Now Zachary was ready to show them that he could catch fish. He could see their facial expressions as they admired his catch. Their mouths would be wide open when Zachary pulled in the biggest trout ever seen in Hawkins River.
