Salting: This is a technique used to defeat password breaking attempts. Some hackers use
programs that compare your encoded (or hashed) password against tables of precomputed
words and phrases in the hope that they will find a match that will enable them to crack your
password. Salting is done by adding additional random data to your password that extends
the length and complexity of your password. That doesn’t make your password bulletproof.
It just makes it harder to crack. Salting is used as part of a defense-in-depth strategy.
