Mozi’s preference for personal distance contrasts with Mencius’ emphasis on human feelings.
Mozi was skeptical of the idea of cultivating relationships, as it could lead to selfish aggression or self-interested corruption, or personal preferences that would cause envy among others. Impartiality was thus a better policy.
Mozi agreed with Confucius about the usefulness of ren / compassion for maintaining social order, but he felt that personal attachments was not the way to accomplish that (as mentioned, instead, one should follow objective standards).
