Since a total of 105 membrane proteins have been identified in human
erythrocytes for which the function is still unknown [99], it is possible
that toxic metal species other than AsIII can enter erythrocytes. Thus,
the aforementioned approach may be extended to probe adverse effects
of these toxic metals on intra-erythrocytic metalloproteins, such as haemoglobin,
Cu, Zn-superoxide dismutase and the Zn-metalloprotein carbonic
anhydrase [10
