Large terrestrial volcanoes after the collision
Framework of Izu peninsula
After Izu Peninsula rose above the sea and until about 200,000 years ago, a number of volcanoes were formed all around Izu Peninsula including such large volcanoes dotting the peninsula as Amagi Volcano and Daruma Volcano.
The gentle mountainsides and plains below the mountains created by these large terrestrial volcanoes still remain here and there mainly in the Nakaizu and Kitaizu areas – magnificent highlands that are now being used for sightseeing, dry field farming, and stock farming.
