• Oilseed Crops are grown primarily for the oil contained in the
seeds. The oil content of small grains (eg, wheat) is only 1-2%;
that of oilseeds ranges from about 20% for soybeans to over
40% for sunflowers and rapeseed (canola).
• Seed oil is a vegetable oil that is obtained from
the seed (endosperm) of some plant, rather than the fruit
(pericarp). Most vegetable oils are seed oils. Some common
examples are sunflower oil, canola oil, and sesame oil.
• Vegetable oils (and margarine, made from these oils) are oils
extracted from seeds like the rapeseed (canola oil) soybean
(soybean oil), corn, sunflower, safflower, etc.
