Marc Dugain, who is the former head of Proteus Airlines and a well-known author, presented his theory in an article published in the French weekly, Paris Match, the digital news publisher, TheLocal.fr, reported on Friday.
Based on witness reports, Dugain is convinced the Malaysian Airlines passenger plane crashed near the Indian Ocean island of Diego Garcia, a British territory encompassing a military base leased to the US.
Dugain also believes that the plane might have been hijacked by remote control and steered toward Diego Garcia, arguing that this is possible with the Boeing technology the aircraft was using. He states the plane was then shot down by the US, as it feared an attack against military base on the island.
