Eight years after the implementation of a routine publiclyfunded childhood chickenpox vaccination program in Alberta, there is a sharp decline in the rate of medically attended shinglesfor both females and males under the age of 10 years. Rates of med-ically attended shingles among older persons continue to increaseand are higher for females than males; but it is not possible to assessthe contribution of the vaccination program to this phenomenon asthis is a continuation of a trend observed prior to vaccine licensure
