Like copper, zinc, nickel or lead, cadmium is present
in aqueous sediments. It is the most toxic element readily
taken up by plants. Cd(II) found in surface waters
originates mainly from industrial wastewaters released
by mining and metallurgical industries. In agriculture
phosphorous fertilizer are used from which Cd(II) is
washed away into rivers and ground waters (Ro_zycka
and Łach, 1999). Such a situation requires some standards
for an acceptable level of Cd(II) ions content in
water as well as for permanent inspection and maintenance
of removal facilities
