For the production of activated carbons, chestnut shell and
grapeseed samples were physically impregnated with ZnCl2 and
then, theywere carbonized by heating in nitrogen atmosphere with
a rate of 20 K/min up to the temperature of 823K which corresponds
to the activation temperature. These carbonized materials
were used as activated carbons after washing several times with
diluted HCl solution and hot distilled water and drying at 378K for
24 h
