Moose Dropping Festival - The Talkeetna Historical Society is hosting its 38th Annual Moose Dropping Festival under a revised format for 2013. This year’s theme is “One Hundred Years of Mountaineering”, to commemorate the first ascent of Mt. McKinley which was achieved on June 7th, 1913. The Historical Society is now hosting individual “Moose Dropping” events throughout the year rather than doing it all on one, two-day weekend as in the past. Rather than limiting the Annual Moose Dropping Festival to one weekend, various scheduled events will take place throughout the year. This format broadens the scope and possibilities for Moose Dropping festivities while keeping the crowds manageable and safe, which had become a concern in past years.
Some of this year’s scheduled events include: June 7th: 100 Year Anniversary, First Ascent of Denali Educational Program. July 4th: Moose on the Loose Parade and Moose Auction followed by the VFW Moose Dropping Drop Raffle, July 5th: Moose Dropping games for all. July 6: Mountain Mama Contest and Kids Games. July 13: Mini Moose Silent Auction, Moose Dropping Games and Music in conjunction with the One-Pitch Softball Tournament.
The Talkeetna Historical Society (THS), holds the “Moose Dropping Festival” Service Mark (which is much like a Trademark) with the State of Alaska; Registration # 89268. Description of goods or services associated with the mark is: “Fund-raising festival events with a Moose Dropping theme”. Any Moose Dropping themed events, especially fund-raisers, should be coordinated through THS. The Historical Society looks forward to preserving the spirit and popularity of “Moose Dropping” which has become a big part of Talkeetna’s cultural history. For more 2013 event details, contact the Historical Society Museum at 733-2487 or visit the website.
