I picked up a used 849 the other day. Way less than the price of a used SM81 and very hard for an average listener to tell the difference. The 894 rolls off at 16k, but has a subtle boost around 11-12k which isn't overdone, and sort of flattens the roll off on the top. The roll off, IMO, helps keep the highs from sounding overly digital (as opposed to the SP C1). The rest of the signal is nearly flat all the way down to the bottom octave.I'm trilled with it on acoustic and hi hat, I don't think I'll need to use a different mic for either. The best I can say its sort of like a clean, clear condenser version of a SM57; 'Shure' sound with same kind of proximity
