The present study aimed to investigate growth rate, specific growth rate, conversion ratio and total
hematocyte count in giant freshwater prawn (Macrobrachium rosenbergii de Man) after being fed with
different supplements of live 1 week-old Thai fairy shrimps. The 3 months-old-prawns were divided into 6
groups. Each group was fed for 8 weeks with 1) pellet diet as a control, 2) pellet diet supplemented with 20 live
Thai fairy shrimps, 3) pellet diet supplemented with 30 live Thai fairy shrimps, 4) pellet diet supplemented with
40 live Thai fairy shrimps, 5) pellet diet supplemented with 50 live Thai fairy shrimps, and 6) pellet diet
supplemented with 50 frozen Thai fairy shrimps. The results showed that the prawns fed with the pellet diet
supplemented with 30 live Thai fairy shrimps had the highest survival rate, but those fed with the pellet diet
supplemented with 50 live Thai fairy shrimps had the highest growth rate and specific growth rate. The total
hemocyte count in these two groups was significantly higher than control (p

hemocyte count in these two groups was significantly higher than control (p<0.05). Histological examination of
hepatopancreas of the prawns fed with the pellet diet supplemented with 50 live Thai fairy shrimps showed
higher numbers of lipid droplets in hepatopancreatic epithelium than the other groups. The data showed that a
pellet diet supplemented with 50 live Thai fairy shrimps is a potential feed for prawn farming.
