Patient-centered communication (PCC).
Researchers have defined PCC as “a primary means through which patientcentered care is accomplished” (McCormack et al., 2011, p.1085). McCormack et al.(2011) developed a conceptual framework for the measurement of PCC in a cancer setting. They took a mixed method approach. In addition to reviewing the literature they observed medical encounters in oncology and performed in-depth interviews with cancer patients and their families on PCC concepts found less frequently in the literature (managing uncertainty, fostering a healing relationship, and enabling patient selfmanagement).
