Table 1 shows that different combinations of binder and extender were observed. Binder and extenders were identified mainly by using the Infrared Spectroscopy Atlas for the Coatings Industry [6] as well as in Rodgers et al. [7] and in Beveridge et al. [8]. The main binder types are acrylic, orthophthalic alkyd, isophthalic alkyd and nitrocellulose-orthophthalic alkyd. In this table, two subgroups remain non-differentiated: each of them containing six paint samples: the first subgroup is characterized by an orthophthalic alkyd binder with barium sulphate as extender, the second by a nitrocellulose and orthophthalic alkyd binder type.
