3.4.2. b-glucosidase production
Three out of seven isolates examined here were able to produce
b-glucosidase. The highest level of b-glucosidase was produced by
isolate T. koningii TK1, as confirmed by detection of most intense
isoform bands and presence of 5 isoforms on the zymogram
(Fig. 5B).
3.4.3. Xylanase production
All fungal isolates examined here produced xylanase, moreover,
all Trichoderma spp. isolates produced higher levels of xylanase
than A. niger. Levels of xylanase produced by Trichoderma spp.
isolates cultivated on residues of melon and pepper plant (Guisado
et al., 2004) were lower than levels of xylanase produced by isolates
investigated here (Fig. 6A, histogram T*).
Isolate T42 T. atroviride, a good cellulase producer, also produced
high levels of xylanase with 12 isoforms of wide pI range (Fig. 6B). A
similar number of isoforms with a wide pI range has been reported
in fungal xylanase producers. Based on measurements of specific
activity the isolate T. harzianum T10 produced the highest levels of
