Gloves should not be worn while working around moving machinery such as drill presses and grinding wheels.
6.2.6 Safety Belts
Safety belts must be worn when working at height above two (2) meters from ground level unless a suitable working platform with secured handrails and secured footholds are available. Lifelines must be checked before use and replaced if necessary.
6.2.7 Respiratory Protection
Respirators must be worn when working in contaminated atmosphere of gas, dust or fumes. Appropriate respirator cartridges or self-contained air-breathing apparatus or protective air-supplied blasting helmet is used for protection against the following :
(a) Toxic dust
(b) Organic, vapors and acid gases
(c) Grit blasting and spray painting
(d) Very fine or highly toxic dust particles and fumes
Approved types of breathing apparatus must be worn when toxic gases are found to be liberated as a result of sludge disturbance during tank cleaning or when painting in confined spaces.
6.2.8 Ear Protection
The earmuff and earplugs are two types of ear protection provided by the Company. These are available for issue to personnel who are required to work in areas where there is excessive noise (above 80 dBA).
6.2.9 Body Protection
Aprons of various materials e.g. rubber, P.V.C. leathers, etc. must be used over the body when handling acids, corrosive chemicals and also during some welding operations or in foundry shop.
6.3 Noise
Most people recognize the nuisance of noise. It disturbs concentration, causes fatigue, interferes with verbal communication and may cause permanent hearing loss.
Noise above certain levels can affect hearing. The impairment ranges from a temporary hearing loss to physical damage to the structure of the ear. The extent of the damage is a function of the quantity of sound energy that enters the ear.
