he Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives is working on farming standards it hopes to be a model for ASEAN's Good Agricultural Practices (ASEAN GAP). The standards for livestock are set to take effect in 2013.
Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister Theera Wongsamut said on Friday after a meeting of the ministry's agricultural standards committee that the meeting had agreed that Thailand's farming standards should be used in streamlining agricultural practices in other member states. He said the Thai standards could be a model for other ASEAN nations due to Thailand's high food safety standard and good farming practices.
The meeting also approved a draft of ASEAN GAP standards for five kinds of agricultural farming including mushroom cultivation in a bag, silkworm farming, cocoon production, control of marine animal diseases in an enterprise and crab farming. The ministry is developing standards for rice storage expected to be enforced this year.
