It is almost midnight as I write this and I've only been in this hotel for barely a day. The shocking experience my partner and I have had at this hotel has been most unpleasant. To the extent possible, Ill stick to facts as I am aware that people have different personal preferences along with tolerance scales. No doubt, some views will be subjective, but here goes:
Initially we had a superior room booked at the Bhuri Wing but soon was forced to upgrade at self cost to a Junior suite I believe at the Thani wing
- Check in was horrid - check in personnel was very cold, clinical and if I didn't give her the benefit of the doubt that her english may have not been that good, I would say she was frankly rude. Nonetheless, I observed other staff at the front counter to be generally warm and well mannered.
- Check-in person lied to me, I asked her specifically to place me at a higher level having read some reviews on here that ground floor superior rooms were damp and had a lot of mosquitos. She said they were fully booked out. Within my first 90 minutes post check-in, I had visited 3 additional rooms in the Bhuri wing including a superior room (the one I had originally booked) on a higher level. That is unacceptable to be lied to by a service provider
- The initial room i booked was horrid - ground floor superior room at the Bhuri Wing. Upon entering the room, I noticed a repugnant damp smell despite an oil burner and air con at full blast along with an air purifier/dehumidifier. This has been raised in numerous reviews on here. Within 15 minutes, I had also killed 4 mosquitos. I came to Thailand for a holiday, not to help Thailand reduce its Mosquito population. There was no electronic incense or any insect spray or repellent. This insect issue has also been raised by others in their reviews. The walls of the room were horrible, in the many offices I have worked in, their walls although far less maintained than a daily serviced hotel room were much cleaner than this. I really wish I had photographed it for viewing, but take my word for it...including blood spatter from previously squashed mosquitos, shoe marks, general dirt. The decor and facilities were also pretty ordinary and not spacious - 32sqm is the advertised...space usage is poor. This is paying roughly ~US$250 a night.
- Upon dropping off my luggage the porter refused to move. I knew obviously that he was after his tip. In Australia, we tip as a matter of good service, and we generally dont award porters a tip when they literally stand in your room awkwardly for 2 minutes refusing to move. That is harassing and rude behavior that I haven't seen. To make matters worse, when we tipped the man 20 baht, he continued to stand there, so we gave him another 20. He only carried my back pack which weighed around 5kgs or less...unacceptable harassing and
