The nonlactating interval in dairy cows, commonly referred to as the “dry period”, is an important determinant of milk production in the subsequent lactation (Remond et al., 1997 and Capuco and Akers, 1999). During the dry period the mammary gland of dairy cows undergoes extensive remodeling both at early involution and mammogenesis phases (Capuco and Akers, 1999).
