In Padak's case, the authentic and purposeful instructional routine was peer-led literature discussions. Padak's three principles for motivation are interesting because they easily relate to some of Gee's findings (2005) about literacy principles found in video games. Perhaps purposeful and authentic reading programs can be found in video games where the game is a “virtually authentic” experience. Adams (2001) says that, “When classroom activities reflect students' lives outside the classroom, they are more likely to want to learn” (p. 1).
