On the lower levels, the UART and the longitudinal parity check reliably detect
up to three corrupted bits in the transmitted telegram (Hamming distance
HD=4). Errors occurring on higher levels, such as HART commands that cannot
be interpreted and device failures, are indicated by the slave upon each
