In this article we showed that pedestrian traffic management measures can have significant impacts on the Passenger
Service Time, passenger density in cars and on platforms as well as passengers’ dissatisfaction in metro stations. This would
generate significant savings in operating costs of metro systems, with low investment cost compared to the value of the
infrastructure involved.
To validate the above hypothesis, many scenarios were simulated in the software LEGION Studio and the best ones were
tested in the Human Dynamics Laboratory (HDL) of Universidad de los Andes. As a result of the simulation and laboratory
experiments, the following conclusions can be drawn.
