Figures 13-1 and 13-2 also offer some clinically useful guidelines in the form of assessment algorithms for deciding whether or not to make biobehavioral management recommendations based on RDC/TMD Axis II findings. These algorithmic decision trees rely mainly on GCP scale scores and criterion scores assigned to patients afterRDC/TMD assessment of depression and somatization. These are offered as practical guides, the utility of which is supported by clinical studies together with the author's clinical experience. The recommendations offered in Figs 13-1 and 13-2 should be considered a bridge between the approach to assessment presented in this chapter and the approaches to clinical management presented in other chapters of this book. It is most specifically relevant to the biobehavioral treatment approaches offered in chapter 26.
