The results of a taxicab study project a few years
ago were incorporated in new model releases but wheelchair
compatibility was limited to folding the chair up and
placing it in the trunk of the vehicle. The introduction of
wagon-type vehicles with lifts into taxi fleets to accommodate
powered wheelchair users began in Tokyo in
1998. While this extended throughout Japan, some of the
