Mucociliary clearance in smokers responded to the stimulus of moderate aerobic exercise similarly to that in
nonsmokers. Changes in mucociliary clearance were
also seen after acute smoking and after exercise followed by smoking, with a shorter clearance time in
smokers, but with no significant differences among the
evaluated stimuli. Correlations were found between mucociliary clearance and cardiac autonomic activity in
both smokers and nonsmokers after the exercise stimulus
