Folkman, 1984; Spector, 1998), as well as the fit experienced between
subordinates and supervisors. Therefore, we encourage future researchers
to explicitly examine these and other mechanisms by which
personality and GFL may predict the development of exhaustion to
shed light on which mechanisms may be dominant.
Fourth, although our hypothesis was fully supported in Sample
2, the slopes for Groups 1 and 2 in Sample 1 were nonsignificant
rather than negative, as expected. However, the distinct contexts
across the two samples (e.g., differing degrees of interaction with
supervisors) and lower variance across variables in Sample 1 may
have affected the results.
