STATOR ... consists of the stationary magnetic
parts, including the core and winding which
operate off the alternating current power supply
to provide a rotating magnetic field.
ROTOR ... consists of the rotating active parts,
and includes the spider, the field-pole winding
and the amortisseur winding. Field poles are
magnetized by direct current from the exciter or
directly through collector rings and brushes; they
interlock magnetically through the air-gap and
revolve in synchronism with the rotating magnetic
poles of the stator.
