The high-resolution spectra of C1s were given further analysis
using a curve-fitting procedure, based on the Gaussian–Lorentzian
function after baseline subtraction using Shirley’s method. Five
components were considered to compose the C1s spectra (Ryu et
al., 2002) with chemical shifts corresponding to: C–C (284.6 eV),
C–O–R (286.0 eV), C O (287.3 eV), COOR (288.9 eV) and –*
(290.3 eV). The fitting curves of these groups were illustrated in
Fig. 6b, and the relative content of each group was listed in Table 2.
As the results suggested, the main groups for the bamboo precursor were the C–O–R and C O groups. The C–C group was predominant
for the activated carbons, which composed more than 80% of the
carbon species. It can be seen that the C–O–R group was reduced
most heavily, which decreased from 61.9% for the bamboo precursor
to 4.7% and 2.6% for the microwave and thermally activated
carbons, respectively. Furthermore, all of the oxygen-containing
groups showed a decrease after activation, which was consistent
with the analysis results of the FTIR and the survey XPS spectra.
