In terms of the population trap, rapid and continuing technological progress can be represented by an upward shift of the income growth (total product) curve so that at all levels of per capita income it is vertically higher than the population growth curve. This is shown in Figure 6.8. As a result, percapita income will continue to grow over time. All countries therefore have the potential of escaping the Malthusian population trap.
