The influence of wall thickness on tip displacement of a Grafalloy graphite shaft was
investigated using a 400 cm
3
Taylor made 580XD driver head at a shaft speed of 45 m/s. The
following conclusions can be drawn from this work:
1. The tip displacement is inversely proposal to the shaft wall thickness
2. The optimum flex of 12 mm occurs at a wall thickness of approximately 0.7 mm.
3. The theoretical beam displacement equation provides good agreement to experimentally
measured values at low displacements. The theoretical displacements become slightly
higher than the actual displacements as the wall thickness decreases.
