It is possible to select sugarcane genotypes
under moderate water deficit conditions with higher
productivity associated with higher stalk number, stalk
height and stalk weight. Therefore, these traits could
be considered as useful tools during crop breeding pro-
cedure in order to make this process more rapid and
cheaper. Besides, this information should be used in
hybridization programs to find parents with higher abil-
ity to transfer drought tolerance as expressed in agro-
nomic traits.
