Four carotenoids in the pulp matched the profiles of standard
compounds (Supplement Fig. 1A). Major carotenoids in the pulp
of ripe durian fruit were b-carotene and a-carotene (Supplement
Fig. 1B). Minor carotenoids were lutein and zeaxanthin (Supplement
Fig. 1B). Our data also showed low levels of an unidentified
carotenoid, just before the peak of a-carotene (Supplement
Fig. 1A). This peak matched 13- or 15-cis-b-carotene in the chromatography
data file (data not shown). This has to be confirmed
using standards of these cis-b-carotenes. Other carotenoids were
not observed.
