Higher efficiency of large hospitals may be due to the economies of scale that
applied to resource utilization (Conway, 1988; Hsing & Bond, 1995), the ability to attract potential patients by more advanced technologies or more comfortable facilities (Ferrier & Valdmanis, 1996), and the standardized work processes that help reduce the time the management spends on organizing and directing and thus providing it more time to plan and control (Munson & Zuckerman, 1983).
